Day 9…….2 days ago! I was a little under the weather with my sinus’ acting up so just now getting on computer. We had an easy and beautiful last day on the bikes. Upper 70’s and clear skies. Short ride into Pest, 24 miles I think. It was all good until we got into the city. Traffic was crazy and no bike lanes. We rode mostly on the sidewalks, but lots of pedestrians out also, so it was tough. We dropped our stuff at the hotel and took the bikes to a shop near the Opera house where they will be picked up and returned to Wien. We had a small bite to eat then checked in to our rooms and much to my delight, a 4 or 5 star hotel with A/C! We have been sightseeing and will post some pictures later. Wonderful time has been had by all.
Last day cycling. Left Szentendre about 10:00 and rode casual to stretch out the 16 miles. Just like leaving Vien the ride was along woodsy paths with trees and wild flowers. Pest is a fast, huge city from what we’ve seen. This eve it is side streets and local places for food and sor (beer).
First stop. Kandallo Kert. Local craft beers and US burgers. We got here at about 17:00 and it was empty. 45 minutes later half filled with regulars.
Second stop. Anker’T. Tourist place. Bigger price, almost five dollars a beer (pivo).
Third stop Rustic. We asked the server at stop 2.5 about local craft beer and found that bars are pen until 6:00am near here but no local craft places. Walked 30 yards and found Rustic.
It was a great day, sunny and upper 70’s. Our most scenic ride as we were along the Danube most of the day. We took 2 ferry rides today along the way. Lunch was in Vac Hungary, pizza was good and we toasted our late friend Matt Elliott. He was in Vac years back when he had a Hungarian girlfriend. We are spending the nite in Szentendre. It has a lot of Serbian history, for those of you that are interested! We will have a short ride into Budapest in the morning. It has flown by so quickly! Continue reading Day 8
Well, rain God’s were with us or Europe just owed me from last time! Rained last nite and into the morning. It was still sprinkling @ breakfast but when we loaded bikes and left it stopped. 100% chance all day and didn’t get a drop! Last trip cold and rainy whole time…. We checked in to Pesion and then went to famous Ezstergom Bascilica and toured. It was amazing. We are on the border of Hungary and Slovakia, Danube is the border. Having dinner and wine and blogging. Ezstergom on Hungarian side , Sturovo on Slovac side. Check with everyone tomorrow……
Addendum to day 4…This is for GDKIII (handsome Dan) I was jamming to MOE as I came into Gyor, Plane Crash came on ,different live version, horns added…. Really Good!
Day 5/6 was beautiful, but hot,81. Rode through a couple of fields on tractor paths, for like 6 to 8 miles total. Not at all like Monon! Still made good time, heading out to sightsee in Komarno Slovakia. Peace out!! Almost forgot…poppies and pot growing along ditch…
David Mueller my Austrian friend whom I met while working at Second Helpings. Long story.
thankfully Peter was feeling much better this morning, because we faced a longish ride to our next stop, Komurano. We were graced with good weather, if a little hot. Up for breakfast at 8, on our way by nine.
After we made our way out of Gyor through some areas of heavy industry, we were soon reminded that we were not in Austria anymore. For reference’s sake, this is a scene from our first day riding out of Vienna.
A nice wide road, really, but only open to bicycles. (And the gypsy caravan in this photo)
Within about ten miles of leaving Gyor, this was our route. Graded, but very rough.
And then it got so rough I didn’t want to stop to take pictures. Except of these poppies
And of this plant growing rampant by the roadside I didn’t recognize at all
But we finally did make it. And we are soon going out to see more sights and take more pictures
